Europa Cup Football

11 04 2010

Covered another night of European Football at Anfield on Thursday 8.4.12. Arrived at the ground early to avoid the traffic. Reserved a place pitch side assuming Liverpool would attack the Anfield Road end first.

I was under instructions to transmit some photos at half time so I had my laptop and mobile broadband ready.I did some pre match shots of the crowd, celebrity guests and the players during the warm up.
My plan was to shoot the first half and transmit during half time.I had charged my 2 year old MacBook Pro earlier and was surprised to see it only had a small amount of power left in the battery. To compound the problem I couldn’t get a signal on the mobile broadband.I had a reasonable shot of Lucas scoring a first half goal and no way to send it through to the agency. No choice but to shoot the second half and transmit everything after the match in the photographers room using the available wi-fi. This resulted in a late finish and I left the ground some one and a half hours after the match finished.

Further photos from the game can be viewed and purchased at    http://www.photoshelter.com/c/imagelibrary/gallery/Liverpool-v-Benfica-Europa-Cup-8-4-10/G0000hpoxiS1NFBw/

Liverpool Hope University Capstone Opening Week.

29 03 2010

I have been busy over the last week photographing Liverpool Hope University Capstone Opening Week.

The £6.5m Capstone building is Liverpool Hope’s new Centre for Music, Performance and Innovation. By day it will be home to Creative and Performing Arts students and staff.

By night, it will open its doors to the people of Liverpool who can enjoy shows at Hope Theatre, a space designed specifically to have the best possible acoustic, ideal for classical and contemporary music.
During the opening week I was commissioned to shoot the formal ceremonies and the performances.

The lighting inside the theatre is very good.I was mostly using a 70-200 lens 1600 asa 2.8 giving a shutter speed of 1/500s.

The program was varied with music, dance and poetry. One problem during the quiet music pieces was the noise of the D3 Shutter.I really must consider buying a blimp for these occasions it would make life a lot easier. A selection of photos from the week below.

The photos were required almost immediately after the event so most of the editing was done on my Macbook Pro on site. Workflow on the MacBook  consists of  Firewire card reader, browse in Photo Mechanic, edit selections in Light Room.
